Upset weekend has finally come....
Where do I start... 5 top 10 teams fall this weekend also 3 more top 25 teams fell in upset fashion.
So where do I start? Well with #3 Oklahoma visiting Colorado. Easy win right since Oklahoma has been beating teams easily by an average of 50 points? Well it seemed like that way when it was 24-10 at the end of three quarters. With Oklahoma looking like it was going to get out of the hostile enviroment easily. They allowed Colorado to score making it 24-17. Then with about 5 minutes left in the game Colorado was punting it. So Oklahoma should be done right? Well tell that to the return man as he muffed the punt and Colorado jumped on it deep in Oklahoma territory. Then with a pass to Sprague wide open in the endzone the score was tied. Then Colorado would kick it off and Oklahoma's drive would start. Now what seemed to be a strong drive was hurt by a personal foul on Oklahoma. So they punt the ball away and a great Colorado return set them up in great field position. A few plays later Colorado in field goal range. The clock runs down to 2 seconds the timeout is called. The kicker Kevin Eberhart comes out on the field and makes his season long field goal as time expires to knock off #3 Oklahoma 27-24. Colorado fans left there seats and were on the field after that.
Now on the other side of the Red River Shootout Texas a team that had been looking shaky recently played Kansas St. Now this should be a victory for Colt McCoy right? Well had he not thrown 4 interceptions it may have been. But Kansas St. routed Texas 41-21. With a punt return for a touchdown a kick return for a touchdown and a Interception return for a touchdown it really isn't that much of a surprise that Kansas St. pulled off this upset... as they rise to Number 24 in the AP poll. The game was close until the end of the third though as the score was only 24-14 at halftime and then Texas would score first in the second half to bring it within three but then they wouldn't score again. So what does this mean for the Red River Shootout? Well a lot but not so much. The winner of that game next weekend really should still win the Big 12 south and should win the Big 12... but now it isn't as simple seeing that North teams are knocking off South teams. It does though take away any kind of national title implications on the Red River Shootout... almost. If a few more undefeated teams drop the winner could still go. But I see Oklahoma still as a potent team since their offense really is good... they just need to get back to it.
Next on the upset list was #4 Florida... they had unranked Auburn in the swamp though why would they lose? Wouldn't Tim Tebow prevent it? But Auburn would jump out quickly in the first half and take a 14-0 lead by half time. So they should have it in the books right? Well the Gators had other plans coming out and scoring making it 14-3 but then Auburn would answer right back making it 17-3. So going into the fourth it looked as if the Florida offense was going to be stalled out all night. But they didn't allow it as they would score 14 unanswered points to tie it up. But then on a Florida drive that was stopped a shanked field goal gave the Auburn Tigers great field position. They would march from there too. Until they got in position for a 43 yard field goal. So Byrum makes it and the upset is over right? The Tigers are already on the field... well Urban Meyer used the timeout trick that the Broncos started by waiting til the absolute second to call a timeout. So what does it mean a re kick. Both times this has happened in the NFL the team missed the second field goal... well Byrum is cooler than that as he made the field goal again giving Auburn the 20-17 win. So the gators fall in the East opening it up for the now #7 Kentucky Wildcats.
Then the Big East also had two upsets as Rutgers lost to Maryland in a game of cat and mouse. Seeing as Rutgers could never really catch up to Maryland. Who kept getting away further. Rutgers had there chances but kept failing so the Terpins made it out with a 34-24 win in big fashion. Then Friday night the West Virginia Mountaineers traveled to South Florida. Slaton and White should have great games right seeing to how powerful their offense is. But right in the first quarter Moffitt would return an interception for the bulls and from that point on the Bulls would never look back. They would come out with a 21-13 win. Resulting in the Bull fans ignoring the announcements not to charge the field. So what does this mean for the Big East? Either it means that the powers aren't really that good. Or on the other hand it proves that South Florida is a really good team with wins over Auburn and West Virginia. I don't think you can write the Big East out even with West Virginia and Louisville losing games. This conference will be fun to watch this year.
Then in the Big Ten the Nittany Lions were trying to bounce back from a loss to Michigan at the Big House. So who better than Illinois to play right? Well it would seem so but that proved not so. Rejus Benn of Illinois would bring a kick off return to the house and have a recieving touchdown. The result ended up another win for Ron Zook as Illinois knocked of #21 Penn St. 27-20. Now Illinois is 4-1 and 2-0 in the conference... so they can't be counted out of the Big Ten race yet. Neither can Indiana who managed to pull of an upset against Iowa. In a 38-20 rout. So you wonder is Indiana a threat now as they are 4-1 or is Iowa just no good this year? So then in Madison Wisconsin would play Michigan St. Now in the 3rd quarter Wisconsin score a touchdown to make it 34-24 so Michigan St. is just going to fall apart now right? Well they had other plans. Possibly even a win as they'd tie it up in the fourth quickly. But then the Badgers would score the game winning field goal with about 6 minutes left. Then the Badger defense would step up finally and keep the Spartans offense from scoring again. Therefore Wisconsin would win 37-34. Then Michigan would travel to Northwestern to play their spread offense. The first half was 16-7 NW. But then the Second Half Michigan would take over and just smash Northwestern. Henne's first game back was a success as they win 28-16 with Henne throwing 3 touchdowns. Then Ohio St. would knock off the Gophers 30-7. Now how does this shape up the Big Ten? Well we see Michigan, Ohio St., Illinois, Purdue, and Wisconsin all undefeated in conference play. With Indiana and Michigan St. with only one loss. The rest all sitting on two losses.
Now as for the Pac 10... USC had a close call against Washington... with a penalty ridden game. But Washington would block a punt with 1.5 minutes left and then get into the endzone but unfortunately on the onside attempt they wouldn't recover. So USC could just run the clock out in a 27-24 final. Then Cal and Oregon would go at it in a very close game. That started off slow but once it got going was really exciting. But in the last few seconds a Dennis Dixon fumble out the endzone would give Cal the ball back and cost Oregon a shot to win. In a final of 31-24 the Bear broke their losing streak at Autzen Stadium.

Week 5 Preview.
Thursday Night Football… Tonight?
Yes that is right this Big East clash is tonight. As #5 West Virginia goes to South Florida who is ranked 18th. Last year South Florida beat West Virginia at West Virginia. Shocked them I should say this season they’re expected… they’re a team that could take the Big East if they wanted to. It all comes down to how they play the big home game. They also are getting all the help in the world from Louisville… since they are now 2-2 with a conference loss to Syracuse.
It’s no easy walk in the park though this weekend for South Florida with West Virginia’s explosive offense. Consisting of Pat White at the qb position who can pass and run the ball at any time and then Steve Slaton who is a slippery fast runner. I don’t know if South Florida will be able to stop this national caliber team. But it will be interesting to see how they respond. Now South Florida did have the upset over Auburn a few weeks ago which they won in an impressive fashion. Ultimately though the winner of this game may control the Big East. With Rutgers the only real other outside challenge. Good Thursday football.
WVU 31 South Florida 28
Explosive Pac 10 offenses My favorite kind of game.
Two teams… Both would like nothing more than to win the Pac 10... Or beat USC when they get to play them at home. But this weekend Cal will have to travel to Autzen stadium to play Oregon. Now both teams have averaged over 40 points a game. Both teams are undefeated and threats to number 1 USC. Both of these teams have a chance to prove themselves. This is the big game for both teams to get a win. This is a statement game for one of these teams the other not so much.
So can Nate Longshore lead the powerful Cal offense to a victory over Dennis Dixon the mobile QB of Oregon? Well if he wants to it will be a big challenge and require a lot of help from Deshawn Jackson. The other question will be if Cal will be able to stop the killing spread offense of Oregon. The team is just unstoppable for the most part. They could be down by a lot and still comeback. It’s a scary thought to know that the team you’re playing could comeback at any time if they wanted to. But Cal could to I think. This game will light the weekend up… it will also be the highest scoring game possibly this season.
Oregon 45 Cal 41
Big Ten back for a second straight week.
This time it will be the other Michigan team who gets the attention. As Michigan St. has to travel to Camp Randall to play Wisconsin. Now the winner of this game has a shot at the Big Ten title. With Ohio St. and Michigan being the other two contenders really. But neither of these teams have really proved themselves yet. As Wisconsin has had close game recently. Not just to Iowa either but against UNLV too. Then Michigan St. still has to play someone worth anything with their first games against UAB, Bowling Green, Pittsburgh, and Notre Dame. Yea that’s right I said it again Notre Dame isn’t any good… get use to it this season.
So the big question is MSU for real this season or is this just going to end in another disappointment for them? Well this will be Mark Dantonio’s first shot to prove that he has brought this team from the gutter. But Wisconsin looks to get the season of their dreams this year but if they want that they’ll need to get their offense rolling. Since it has been low scoring for them all season. I see a down hill season starting now for one team.

NCAA football week 4 in review
The team with the second best win percentage in college football made history yesterday.. Not in a good way. Notre Dame loss to Michigan St. 31-14 in South Bend. Notre Dame did score their first offensive touchdown of the season. But it was also the first time that Notre Dame has ever loss to the same team 6 straight times at home. Also it is the first time that Notre Dame has started 0-4. Now what does this mean... well it means that last year perhaps Brady Quinn was the whole team... Not trying to take anything away from the Spartans but the Irish are just pitiful this year. They look like they don't know that they are suppose to hold on to the ball. Also they look like they are putting all of their effort into losing. Not winning. They have talent but they aren't taking any advantage of it and it is very obvious. The outlook for Notre Dame... Very bad. This will be a long season for the Irish and next week will just make it worse with Purdue. For Michigan St. they get to go on the road to Wisconsin... now that is a challenge. Both teams are 4-0 though and in position to put themselves in a good position in the Big Ten.
Then the big upset of the week was Syracuse's 38-35 win over #18 Louisville. Louisville had a great offense but on the defensive side of the ball they were horrible. There is no reason why you should lose to a team when throwing for 555 yards. The sad thing about this really is for Louisville is they were a team that could play their way into the title game... instead they're 2-2 with two straight losses to Kentucky and Syracuse. Now Kentucky wasn't that big of a surprise but the Syracuse game... at home too was a huge surprise. Syracuse hadn't won a game coming in. Louisville has no shot at the national championship now and if they want to even contend for the Big East they'll have to turn it around.
Speaking of 2-2 teams lets look at Michigan who is coming in the opposite direction after starting as a top 5 team they would lose the first two games of the season. But then they would play the suffering Irish and win 38-0. Then this week in a great game they would beat Penn St. 14-9. The tenth ranked Nittany Lions came in only allowing 17 rush yards a game and Michigan's Mike Hart ran for 153 yards. He made it look easy too. After early in the game seeming cold he had a strong 2nd half and finish to the first half. Then Mallett would throw for 170 yards also he would run in untouched for a ten yard touchdown run. Michigan now is in the drivers seat to win the big ten since Penn St. was really looking like one of the best teams in the Big 10. Now Ohio St. will be the big road block for the blue and gold... as Ohio St. beat Northwestern 58-7 in what looked like an offensive explosion. Then Wisconsin and Iowa had a match up that was very close. But in the end Wisconsin ended up proving too much for the Hawkeyes as they'd win 17-13. As P.J. Hill scored a 4th quarter touchdown for Wisconsin to win it. Then elsewhere in the big Ten Purdue beat Minnesota 45-31. Which was closer than expected but still a walk over. As Minnesota is the worse team in the Big 10 this year. But they could surprise and beat Northwestern. Then Illinois and Indiana also played the score in that one in favor of Illinois 27-14. Both teams are 3-1 and could contend in the big ten if it becomes to much of a mess. I still like the normal powers in this conference this year, but I won't be surprised if another team steps up and surprises the Big 10.
A team that showed their dominance was definitely Oklahoma. As their offense would put up 62 more points in a 62-21 win over Tulsa. The game was expected to be a close shoot out but Oklahoma showed otherwise. That is why I like Oklahoma and think they could be the team to beat right now. The way their offense is playing they are a huge threat. LSU beat South Carolina 28-16. As their defense played a spectacular game. Keeping S.C. from being able to do anything offensively. This would be my pick for a national championship game. But USC remains number 1 in the polls after they beat Washington St. 47-14. No surprise there really. But will USC be able to go on the road against teams like Oregon and Cal and win? We don't know yet since there only good road win is against Nebraska but Nebraska barely beat Ball St. this weekend 41-40.
Heisman Watch:
1. (RB Arkansas) Darren Mcfadden Rushing: 519 yards 4TD Recieving: 7 REC 56 Yards
Passing: 1/2 42 yards 1TD
2. (QB Hawaii) Colt Brennan Passing: 103/133 1262 Yards 12 TD 1 INT Rushing: 34 Yards 4 TD
3. (QB Louisville) Brian Brohm Passing: 114/168 1697 Yards 15TD 3 INT Rushing: 1 TD
4. (QB Florida) Tim Tebow Passing: 65/95 1096 yards 10 TD 1INT Rushing: 358 yards 7TD

Week 4 Picks
A dose of the Twilight zone Perhaps?
Two years ago this game started at the same time the same situation. Could this be déjà vu. Well I’m going to tell you why this Saturday’s Michigan Penn St. game will be déjà vu but will also not be. For those who don’t remember two years ago with a second left Henne passed the ball to Manningham on a short cross route to win the game with 1 second left on the clock. Now back in the big house Michigan looks to repeat their winning ways against Penn St. but Penn St. looks to get their revenge… this may be the year to do it too. Michigan looks like a suffering team but they may finally have their confidence back after smashing Notre Dame 38-0. While Penn St. comes in undefeated again and ranked 10th.
Well will the Michigan offense with Hart and possibly Henne, but it may still be Mallet… but either way they’ll have the receivers to help them out… be able to conquer the Penn St. defense. This defense is no joke either… but their offense is questionable and may not be able to keep up with the Wolverines. But I can’t be sure that is why we have to play these games. Another 4th quarter thriller.
Michigan 27 Penn St. 24
The Head Ball Coach will get to play in the “Game”
This could very well be the most intriguing game this weekend. I know that LSU managed to destroy Virginia Tech but now they must play conference opponent South Carolina. Who won’t let them walk out easily on top. This game will be, if as well played as it could be a 4 quarter epic. South Carolina beat Georgia 2 weeks ago surprisingly now they’re 3-0 and looking to prove their ranking. Beating LSU in Baton Rouge would have to be the best way to prove that you should be a top 25 team if not a top 5 team.
The wonder is will the Gamecocks be able to get something going on offense? They have a great running game but LSU has a defense that is just killer. So they’ll have to try and find the holes if there are any. Then their passing game will have a big leap to make as they threw three picks last week against South Carolina St. But will LSU have an offense that can do anything against South Carolina? They’re offense has scored a lot of points but it may just be the dominating defense. But Steve Spurrier may have something up his sleeve and if he does LSU may want to watch out.
LSU 31 South Carolina 26
Another SEC game that will be oh so interesting.
Well now Nick Saban will have another test. But will he be able to take it on? There shouldn’t be to much doubt. After his Crimson Tide beat Arkansas last weekend… they will now have to go up against Georgia. The good news for Alabama they get Georgia at home. My wonder is if Alabama is a contender in the SEC west… could they challenge LSU for the crown? Or will they not be able to? Georgia on the other hand put themselves behind early by losing to South Carolina who is also from the SEC east. But it is the SEC and I’ve seen division champs come out with 2 or 3 losses before. So it’s never over.
Passing wise everything is equal. But on the flip side the Tide have rushed for almost 200 yards more through three games. Can Georgia step up though? They were seen as the team to challenge Florida at the beginning of the year. Now will see if they can play a SEC team with that kind of style that they need to. But Bulldog quarterback Stafford is planning on doing something in Georgia’s first road game. If he wants the win though they have a lot they’ll need to do and quickly not later.
Alabama 31 Georgia 13
Week 4 in Review coming Sunday..... Please tell your friends... I'm getting about 2 or 3 readers a post. I could do better.

Week 3 in review
This week could definetly be called an upset week... but in my opinion it is just another weird week in a weird season of college football.
The biggest surprise this week was the 44-6 routing Utah had of UCLA. This was a worrisome thing for UCLA. If a 0-2 team can just upset you by that much it doesn't show a very promising season coming up. The Bruins planned an easy win instead they had a game of many mistakes. After turning the ball over 5 times allowing the Utes to take advantage of those mistakes. Yardage wise it was an even game. The score was only 14-6 at half time before the Bruins went into complete and total melt down mode. Once they did though it was ugly. As Utah out scored them 30-0 in the second half. UCLA will have to hurry up and recuperate if they want to be a threat in the Pac 10... especially with the way teams like Oregon and USC have been playing recently. Cal will also be a power to be reckoned with.
Our next big upset? The Kentucky Louisville game. A game that was a punch for a punch all game this one came right down to the end. The key though was that Kentucky's Woodson threw the game winning 52 yard touchdown pass with 28 seconds left in the game. Louisville still had their shot though as Brohm's hail mary at the end of the game was caught but out of the endzone. So the end result Kentucky 40-34. What does this game mean. First it means that Louisville needs to figure out their own defense. They have allowed 40+ points the last two games. Now they have a good offense but not that good. So if they want to even contend with Rutgers and West Virginia or South Florida for that matter they have to step it up. Now for Kentucky though... I think it might be a good time for Florida and Tennessee to start watching out. Not only for Kentucky but South Carolina who won 38-3 over South Carolina St.
Now in the west division of the SEC. Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide played Arkansas. So what should happen here? Well Mcfadden will lead Arkansas to a big win right? He almost did but in the end a last minute drive by Alabama would give them the win 41-38. What happened a controversial interference play on Arkansas was a big part of it. But when Alabama is up 21-0 at the end of the first and then up 31-10 at one point in the third there shouldn't be any reason why they are having to make a last second score to win. Still this is a very promising win for Alabama and Saban... could Saban be the answer? This will be an exciting season especially when they play LSU. Elsewhere in the SEC west... Mississippi St. had their big upset over a normal power as they knock off Auburn 19-14. This is a wierd season... but the SEC is a conference where anything can happen.
Now some of the Top teams who won who were suppose to... USC came out over #14 Nebraska 49-31. What started of as a close game was just opened up by USC as the game went on. Then else where LSU beat Mid Tenn St. 44-0 with Flynn their starting QB out. Also Oklahoma routed Utah St. 54-3. Then Florida tore open a game against Tennessee that started relativly tight by winning 59-20. Now what do I take from all of these games? USC the win is a good sign the domination is great but they destroyed Nebraska last year in the same situation except at home.. it didn't end up meaning much. So I don't know how to take this game. I think they'll have to start playing Pac 10 teams before they can be judged. Then LSU is just tough. They never even played Flynn and still routed.. They are a real potent team they are my current favorite team to win the Nation Championship so my #1. Then Oklahoma shows a really good offense and they are in the perfect conference for it too. I think they have the best shot at making the title game because of the ease of schedule... with the way Texas barely beat UCF 35-32 I don't see Texas as a threat. Then Florida would be a team to watch for they have an unbelievable explosiveness. I'm interested to see how they'll play when they play other teams in the SEC. They will be a big threat for LSU though.
Some smaller upsets this week. An end to the 22 game losing streak as Duke went on the road and beat Northwestern 20-14. Then Minnesota lost to Florida Atlantic 42-39. Then Iowa who was suppose to be something this year lost to an 0-2 Iowa St. 15-13. Eastern Michigan pulled out a win against Northern Illinois 21-19. Then Troy destroyed Oklahoma St. with a spread offense that looked amazingly good, the score: 41-23.
Some Big 10 action. Well Michigan beat a Notre Dame team that looked awful 38-0. Now this Notre Dame team is really bad enough to lose out... they don't look like they know what football is. I mean first snap over Clausen's head. It was pathetic... I actually feel bad for Notre Dame fans. Then Michigan St. is showing spirit as they came out on top of Pittsburgh 17-13. Could this be the start of a big season? Well 3-0 is only a quarter of the way there. Then Wisconsin had some trouble with Citadel as it wasn't until the third quarter before they could break it open 45-31. Purdue shattered Central Michigan 45-22. Indiana won big over Akron 41-24. Then Illinois won 41-20 over Syracuse. Then in Tressels 200th win Ohio St. beat Washington 33-14 in what looked like a good game early.
A little action in the ACC as Boston College had a big game in a 21-10 win over Georgia Tech. Which is promising also more importantly Boston College is now 3-0 in confernce and overall they are looking like a team that could win the ACC. Then Florida St. had a close one in a 16-6 win against Colorado. But CU had the defense to win they just couldn't get the offense going.
Well now some Heisman Watching:
1. (QB Hawaii) Colt Brennan Passing: 103/133 1262 Yards 12 TD 1 Int. 4 Rushing TD's.
2. (RB Arkansas) Darren Mcfadden Rushing: 57 Att. 346 Yards 3TDs Recieving: 5 Rec. 46 Yards. Passing: 1/2 42 yards 1 TD

4. (QB USC) John David Booty Passing: 40/62 350 Yards 5TD 1 INT

Week three picks
SEC East Action begins with a big One!
Can the shaky defense pull off an upset this early in the season? Will they disrupt the Gator’s run at another national title? If they decide to Tennessee will have to play their best to beat Florida. Florida has won the last two college basketball titles and won the last college football title. Now will get to see what Tim Tebow can do playing a whole game against a good team like Tennessee. But can Tennessee step up after they allowed California to put up 45 points against them and is also ranked 100th in the nation in defense. While Florida has over 1000 yards through out their first two victories.
Now we do have to remember though this is a big game. This could be the “upset Saturday” of this season. But we will have to wait and see. This game could have national title implications and possibly decide who will be the SEC East champion. In my opinion though no SEC game is easy, both teams always seem to show great defenses even if neither team has a good defense. So what can we expect from Ainge and the Vols… or will Tebow and the Gators be the talk of the week?
Don’t miss this at 3:30.
Florida 21 Tennessee 13
Another disappointment? Or a better game?
Please oh please let this game look better this year than it did last year. The last thing I want to see is USC destroy Nebraska for a second straight year. I know Keller also doesn’t want to see Nebraska get smashed again either as he was a Pac 10 qb at Arizona St. until he moved to the Big 12 and Nebraska. Unfortunately it seems he never did have much luck against USC at ASU but he did get plenty of close calls… now he wants his turn to win. The only problem seems to be that the only teams that can ever challenge USC are teams actually in the Pac 10 who sees them every year. While non Pac 10 teams just look confused while playing the Trojans whether or not John David Booty or Lienart is at the helms.
One name though comes to mind when you think of USC… that would be Pete Carroll. This guy has been un beatable at USC. When will USC actually be threatened against their dominance? Well I don’t think it will be this weekend or will it? Last year I picked Nebraska to pull off the upset and I was disappointed this year I’m not going to be wrong on this game… at least that is the plan.
USC 33 Nebraska 17
The mess is just beginning this year.
No better conference than the ACC. Nothing is more interesting to watch than how those teams never manage to have a team still in title contention by the half way point. They all just beat up on each other and no one can ever run the table it seems in that conference. At least since they became a “super conference” Two teams though this weekend are looking to turn that around… as Boston College and Georgia Tech will go at it. Georgia Tech will host their ACC opener while B.C. is already 2-0 in the conference. Both teams are undefeated to this point. This 8:00 game may be the best game this weekend. Or it may be the most overrated game of the weekend… like ACC counterpart V.T. against LSU.
How will the amazing defense and powerful running attack of Georgia Tech face up to against the amazing away playing of Boston College? Who have the nations 8th best road record since 2003. The big thing about this game though is how it will possibly be a look at the best teams in the ACC… as the traditional powers fail. Now it is time for one of these teams to step it up and show that it doesn’t take a big football name to be great.

Week 2 in Review.
Besides the Arkansas St./Memphis game which was delayed all the games have already been played that were scheduled this week... Don't worry I wasn't going to write about that game anyways.
I'm going to start in the domination down in Baton Rouge. What appeared to be two of the best defenses in the nation were going to play. LSU was going to play host to Virginia Tech. I expected a low scoring close game, I expected a game that would go to the end. So what did I get? I saw a game that was a 48-7 LSU victory. Not only was it Beamers worse loss at VT, but another surprise in this season of surprises. What does this mean for LSU? A number one spot right? I mean USC didn't play did they? No they didn't but they'll most likely hold on to that #1 spot since that's where they were in the preseason. Honestly though the preseason poll doesn't mean anything. So many upsets in the top 25 in these first two weeks. Now what do I think... well LSU is my new favorite to win the national championship. A strong defense with a growing offense that is playing very well now. Virginia Tech well they get to go back and play in the ACC which is open to anyone. Is VT for real though with a close game against ECU a week ago at home and then this blow out? If they are they have to prove it.
Texas and TCU had a match up in Austin this weekend that looked to be one game in TCU's Boise St. like run for the BCS this year. Up 10-0 at half time TCU appeared to have a great game going and what could have been an upset but then in the Second half Texas and Colt McCoy came out and played a great game and ended up winning 34-13. Talk about a dissapointment for TCU... still they put Texas on the edge. But Texas's rival Oklahoma had another strong showing as they put down Miami (FL) 51-13 showing that they are possibly the team to beat in the Big 12. Those teams will have an interesting game in the Red River Shoot out in a few weeks.
Some upsets of the week, Auburn lost to South Florida at home 26-23 in over time. South Florida made a show for the Big East and also shows that they are a threat to the Big East powers such as Louisville, West Virginia, and Rutgers. They have potential to win it too this year. Another big one was a 16-12 South Carolina win over Georgia which puts South Carolina in a nice spot at the beginning of this season. They could look to be contenders in the SEC East. But they'll still have to compete with Florida and Tennessee, and Georgia if Georgia bounce back.
Everyone in the Big 10 won except for Michigan who lost 39-7. Which puts the thoughts of App. St. being so good a little lower. Michigan is ruining their season and the legacy of some senoirs and their coach. From #5 to Unranked and 0-2 is big deal. It doesn't look good and it needs to be fixed if they still want any shot at a Big Ten Championship... Then Notre Dame loss to Penn St. 31-10 even though they came out and took back a pick, their defense couldn't stop PSU very well also they couldn't do anything on offense. As their Defense has more TD's than their offense... for those who didn't know this is the first time that both Michigan and ND go in 0-2 to their game. Also first time since 1979 that Gerogia, Notre Dame, Michigan, and Virginia Tech all loss in the same weekend.
Other scores in the big 10 include... a close win at UNLV for Wisconsin 20-13. As Wisconsin scored a touchdown near the end to take the lead and win it. Then Iowa destroyed Syracuse 35-0. Indiana pulled off the win at Western Michigan 37-27. Illinois beat Western Illinois from the D. IAA ( I know they changed the division names but that is just easier) 21-0. Purdue stomped on Eastern Illinois 52-6 no surprise there though. The Buckeyes beat Akron 20-2 holding Akron to 72 yards.. but they also gave up a safety. Minnesota beat Miami (OH) 41-35 in 2 over times. Then Michigan St. beat BGSU 28-17 scoring a touchdown every quarter. Then in another close game Northwestern beat Nevada 36-31.

Week 2 big game Picks
Some Canes and Sooners what could be better?
One team ranked the other not, One team came off a good season the other a miserable one… highlighted by a fight against FIU. This year though Miami is looking to get off to a better start especially with their second game being at Oklahoma. Do they really stand a chance against a Big 12 powerhouse? Well they’ll have to prove it. Can the new Cane’s coach Randy Shannon prove that he is a good coach.. That he is Miami (FL) future. Or we’ll he just end up where Coker was at the end of last season? Last week he showed a win… but so did Oklahoma and for those who didn’t know Oklahoma posted 79 points against North Texas, in a big blow out.
What makes this game intriguing is the fact that this would be key a few years ago. Yet little do people know that it still could be. If Miami pulls a win out of this they’ll jump into the top 25 also they’ll be a big threat in the ACC. So if you want a game to watch at noon this weekend this would be my advice. We have a hot Oklahoma offense and what is suppose to be a hot Miami Defense going at it my wonder though is which one will be able to come out on top?
Oklahoma 31 Miami (Fl) 17
College Game Day will be here Saturday so it must..
Be a good game.
Like my little trick there? This week in Baton Rouge at 9:22 EST, LSU will host the team with a dream… some have called them America’s team I see why… Virginia Tech. This is the game of the weekend and for good reasons. These two teams have some two of the best defenses in the nation. Also VT is still playing with all the passion in the world.. After the tragedy back in May. So this game is about to be one of the hardest fought games this year and possibly have the biggest impact of any game the first six weeks.
Neither team looked good the first week. Although LSU won 45-0... Mississippi St. gave them trouble no matter what any one says.. If MSU would have been able to hold on to the ball they would have been winning by half time. Then for Virginia Tech who had a scare against East Carolina they might have been in big trouble if it weren’t for the interception they took back for a touchdown. But ultimately both teams came out with a win and are still looking for a conference championship and a National Championship.. So which defense can do it?
Virginia Tech 17 LSU 14
BCS school vs. Non BCS Easy win right?
Not so fast my friends… That’s right TCU has every right to believe that they will be able to pull the upset off against Texas. I don’t blame them either… Texas almost blew it against Arkansas St. last week in a 21-13 game. Here’s the big thing about all of this though does that show that Colt McCoy isn’t as good as everyone thought originally.. Is he just one and out? We’ll find out this weekend as they play TCU at home… TCU ranked 19th is looking to pull the upset off over one of the teams to fall lower in the rankings after the close call and bad game… The big thing for TCU is that they are going to try and use this to get into a BCS game.
What makes this game exciting is the fact that any non BCS team will play a lot harder against a BCS team. Since this is basically their one shot to prove that they deserve a shot at a big bowl game. Normally the teams they play are seen as not very good, and usually for a good reason as for the most part they lose to teams from big conferences. So will the tables be turned this week… will this be another top 10 teams turn to suffer the upset?
TCU 27 Texas 24

NCAAF First Week Review.
Well I know that there is still two more games to be played on Monday, but I'm going to be writing the week reviews on Sundays I think this fall.
Where to start... I know you've all heard about this game, what may be the biggest upset in all of sports ever, but Michigan lost to Appalachian St. 34-32. Now I believe this could have been foreseen had we known what kind of offense ASU ran. Michigan has had trouble with spread offenses for years, and I don't know if that will end any time soon seeing how this played out. Now I don't know if I've seen a team as fast as ASU since well maybe OSU last year. Or WVU this year. But in less Michigan can be less stubborn and maybe open up a little more on offense and play a more prepared defense than I don't know how well they'll do next week against Oregon but it might not be pretty.
Else where the team that played the best game was Illinois. I know they lost but only by six and they almost pulled it off against Missouri who is suppose to win the Big 12 North. Unfortunately their freshman quarterback Mcgee who replaced their starter threw a pick with 45 seconds to go in the 4th quarter. Still I think this is very encouraging for Illinois and shows much better results maybe in the future.
Then the marquee game this week was much less of a game than we thought. Seeing as Cal won 45-31. I didn't think it would be that high scoring so it surprised me. Still Tennessee showed some good play in the first quarter but then in the 2nd quarter Cal broke it open and when into the half with a 10 point lead. This Cal offense though is very promising and may allow them to be a power in the Pac 10 this year. Also they may pull the upset against USC but that game is a long way down the road. UCS beat Idaho 38-10 which was expected.
Mississippi St. played a decent game in the first half against LSU. But the quarterback threw interceptions which killed plenty of scoring drives. Also in that game was a loud stadium with a lot of cowbells, which for those of you don't know is banned in the SEC.
Heisman Watch:
1. (RB Ark.) Darren Mcfadden: Rushing 151 yards 1 TD Receiving 30 yards Passing 42 yards 1 TD
2. (QB Haw.) Colt Brennan: Passing 416 yards 6 TD 0 INT's
3. (QB UL) Brian Brohm: Passing 375 yards 4TD 0 INT's
4. (RB Rut.) Ray Rice: Rushing 184 yards 3 TD Receiving 21 yards
Other Players to watch: John David Booty(USC QB), Mike Hart (Mich. RB), Marlon Lucky(NEB. RB).
Outside of these games all the other games went basically as they were expected to. Now Notre Dame may have been upset if you see it that way. Since they were beat 33-3 by Georgia Tech. But really Notre Dame is a suffering team more than a striving team.
Next: McConkey Poll coming on Tuesday. Until then see you next time.
